A few days ago, I was cleaning out my grandmother’s old wooden dresser when I found something I had never seen before.
And for some reason, I was almost too embarrassed to ask her what it was.
If you grew up with a grandmother who saved absolutely everything, you probably know what those old drawers are like.
They aren’t really drawers.
They’re tiny museums.
Buttons from shirts that disappeared decades ago.
Spools of faded thread.
Needles tucked into little pieces of fabric.
Tiny silver scissors.
Handwritten notes.
Old photographs.
And random objects that nobody in the family seems to recognize anymore.
I was sorting through one of those drawers when I found a small blue box hidden underneath several pieces of folded cloth.
Inside was a strange object.
Small.
Smooth.
Long and narrow.
Slightly pointed at one end.
And attached to the other end was a tiny string.
I placed a coin beside it just to understand how small it really was.
Then I stared at it.
“What in the world is this?”
At first, I thought the answer would be obvious.
It wasn’t.
So here’s the challenge:
Can YOU figure out what this mysterious old object was used for?
Take a good look at the clues.
It was clearly handmade or at least very old.
Its surface had been polished completely smooth.
The tip was pointed, but it wasn’t sharp like a needle.
There was no blade.
No obvious moving part.
And the little string at the end suggested that whoever owned it probably wanted to keep it nearby.
My imagination immediately started working overtime.
Was it an old-fashioned hair accessory?
