ATTENTION CHALLENGE: HOW MANY PEARS CAN YOU REALLY SEE?

Think your eyes are sharp?

Then this little pear puzzle might be harder than it looks.

Take a good look at the bowl filled with bright yellow pears.

At the top of the picture, you are given a simple question:

“Are there 14 pears or 15?”

Sounds easy, right?

Most people look at the picture for only a few seconds and immediately choose one of those answers.

Some confidently say:

“Definitely 14.”

Others count again and insist:

“No, there are 15!”

But there is a problem.

Neither answer is correct.

Yes, you read that right.

The puzzle is trying to distract you by making you believe the answer must be either 14 or 15.

So before reading any further, take another careful look.

Can you spot what everyone else is missing?

Here is a small clue:

Don’t just count the visible bodies of the pears.

Pay attention to the stems.

Because some pears are partially hidden behind the others.

Ready to solve it?

Let’s count slowly, one row at a time.

Start with the pears closest to you.

In the front row, there are 4 large yellow pears.

So our total begins at:

Now move your eyes slightly backward.

In the second row, there are 5 more pears squeezed between the ones in front.

That gives us:

4 + 5 = 9.

So far, we have counted 9 pears.

But we are not finished.

Look behind that second row.

There is another layer.

In the third row, you can find 4 additional pears.
