A siren sounded in the corridor.
Margaret jerked backward.
“What did you do?”
“Four.”
“You’re insane.”
“Three.”
Footsteps thundered outside.
“Two.”
The door burst open.
Four hospital security officers entered in formation, led by Chief Daniel Ruiz. Two nurses followed, one of them pushing an emergency cart. Ruiz’s hand hovered near the restraint device on his belt.
