Episode 1
Every morning, as soon as the neighborhood butcher shop opened, an old woman named Lidia would rush in and ask for the same thing: sixty kilos of beef. Ovidiu, the butcher, had known her for years; she was a modest woman who only bought small quantities for her own consumption. Seeing her now counting crumpled bills with a trembling hand and carrying heavy sacks left him perplexed.
The first time, Lidia explained that her son had come to visit and was preparing a large family meal. Ovidiu agreed, but that afternoon he learned news that chilled him to the bone: Lidia’s son had died years before. Who was all that meat for?
Her behavior was becoming increasingly strange.
The next day, the old woman returned and again asked for sixty kilos. Then the following day. And the day after that. She avoided all conversation, refused all help, and glanced over her shoulder before leaving the shop, as if she feared being followed. Ovidiu decided to find out what was going on and, one morning, followed her at a distance.
Lidia loaded the packages onto an old cart and headed toward the abandoned industrial buildings on the outskirts of town. She passed through rusty gates and disappeared inside. Nearly an hour later, she emerged with the cart completely empty.
That same evening, the butcher spotted her again, this time near the recycling bins. The old woman was collecting cardboard, bottles, and scrap metal, carefully pocketing whatever coins she managed to gather. Yet, the next morning, she returned with the same enormous order for meat.
Rumors and complaints:
neighbors began to notice her strange movements. The rumors spread, and several people called the police, alarmed by what might be happening in the abandoned building. When the officers arrived to investigate, Lidia stood in front of the gate and flatly refused to let them in.
A muffled sound came from inside, followed by a rapid rustling, like movement. The woman paled and gripped the bolt even tighter. One officer gently removed her hand, another shone his flashlight into the opening. When the bolt gave way and the rusty doors creaked open, the officers took a few steps into the darkness… and were speechless.
