My Husband Asked for Divorce—Then His Watch Exposed a Secret
A woman half his age.
I had never met her.
The revelation made everything feel even more unreal. The gym that I had thought was helping Ed improve his health had apparently become the place where he had met someone else.
I could not stop asking myself how I had failed to see it.
Then came the divorce.
Ed moved into an apartment.
I knew the address because our children and grandchildren visited him there from time to time. Knowing where he lived did not make the separation any easier. If anything, it made the new reality feel painfully concrete.
His belongings were no longer around the house. His routines were gone. The person who had been beside me for 42 years was suddenly living somewhere else.
For weeks, I barely ate.
I was under tremendous stress, and the emotional shock seemed to affect everything. I kept replaying Ed’s words in my head, wondering how long he had been lying to me and whether the life I thought we had shared had ever meant the same thing to him.
It felt like the man I’d spent 42 years with had become a complete stranger to me.
The man I knew would never have hurt me like this.
My heart was breaking.
Still, I tried to carry on. Our children and grandchildren needed me, and I did my best to keep going even though every day felt heavier than the one before.
Then, suddenly, everything changed again.
I received an alert from Ed’s smartwatch.
For a second, I simply stared at my phone.
I had completely forgotten to disconnect the watch from my phone after Ed moved out.
That forgotten connection, which I had not thought about since the divorce, suddenly became the only thing standing between Ed and what might happen next.
But what I saw terrified me.
His heart rate was dangerously LOW.
At first, I could hardly believe the reading. Then I looked again.
The alert was not something I could ignore.
I immediately called Ed.
There was no answer.
I called again.
And again.
I called him at least ten times.
Still, he did not answer.
Meanwhile, the smartwatch continued sending readings to my phone.
His pulse just kept dropping.
Whatever had happened, this was no longer about our divorce, his affair, or the woman he had chosen to be with.
This was about whether Ed was alive.
I grabbed a taxi and rushed to his apartment.
My mind raced the entire way. I was frightened, angry, confused, and still deeply hurt by everything that had happened between us. But none of that mattered in that moment.
He was my husband of 42 years.
And he needed help.
When I reached the apartment, I rushed inside.
I found Ed collapsed on the kitchen floor.
For one terrible second, I thought I might already be too late.
But he still had a pulse.
I immediately called 911 and waited for the ambulance.
I stayed there, terrified, watching Ed and hoping the emergency responders would arrive quickly.
Then, barely a minute later, someone burst into the apartment behind me.
The sudden movement made me turn around.
Given everything that had happened, I immediately assumed it was probably his new woman.
The same trainer.
The woman Ed had told me he had fallen in love with.
