Move Just One Egg So There Are 5 Eggs on Each Side

Instead of placing it at the end of one of the rows, move it straight down to the intersection.

Place it directly on top of the egg that is already there.

Now you have two eggs occupying the same position.

And suddenly, the entire puzzle changes.

The horizontal arrangement can now be counted as five eggs.

At the same time, the vertical arrangement also contains five eggs.

Why?

Because the two eggs stacked at the intersection can be counted as part of both rows.

That’s the trick most people miss.

You don’t need to change the number of eggs.

You only need to change their arrangement so that the intersection works for both sides.

The Solution

Take the egg sitting alone at the top.

Move it down.

Place it directly on top of the egg at the intersection.

That’s it.

Five eggs on one side.
Five eggs on the other side.

The puzzle seems difficult because your brain naturally wants to count each row separately.

But once you realize that the intersection can contain two eggs, the solution becomes surprisingly simple.

Did you find it before reading the answer?

If you did, well done!

If you didn’t, don’t feel bad. That’s exactly what makes these puzzles so entertaining.

Sometimes the answer isn’t about moving things farther apart.

It’s about realizing that one position can serve two purposes at the same time.
