PART 2: WHO REALLY OWNED THE HOUSE
Beatrice had assembled a family council in the west drawing room before we arrived. Her husband, several relatives, two foundation board members, and the security supervisor were present. Elena took Leo to the library with Marjorie while I entered the meeting alone. Beatrice stood near the fireplace in silk and pearls, calmly explaining that Elena was unsuitable and that sentiment had prevented me from making necessary decisions.
“Raymond. You returned early.”
“Yes.”
“We were discussing certain adjustments following a difficult year.”
“Who authorized Elena and Leo’s removal from the estate?”
Beatrice maintained her smile.
“Removal is an unnecessarily dramatic word.”
