Tessa pushed past him.
“Your room is across from mine. I put clean sheets on the bed.”
Sadie blinked.
“You did?”
“They have little stars on them. The other set had ducks, and you look too old for ducks.”
“Tessa,” I warned.
Sadie’s mouth moved into the smallest smile.
“Stars are good.”
Our children took her upstairs before she had even removed her wet shoes.
I remained by the doorway, watching the backpack disappear around the corner.
