Let’s stop the dramatic dots! If you’re expecting doctors to reveal that cauliflower is a secret poison or the cause of a global conspiracy, I have to disappoint you (and your clicker finger).
These typical “clickbait” headlines try to scare you, but the reality is much more prosaic. Cauliflower is a superfood, but it has two small “buts” that doctors actually mention:
- “Cauliflower causes… bloating” (flatulence)
This is the biggest “scandal”. Cauliflower is a cruciferous vegetable and contains complex carbohydrates (raffinose) that our bodies cannot fully break down.
What happens: The bacteria in your gut start fermenting them, and the result is… well, social embarrassment and a bloated belly.
Solution: Add cumin, fennel, or ginger to your cooking. It will help your digestion significantly.
