While most hotels operate professionally and safely, a quick visual check can help you identify maintenance issues or potential privacy concerns.
Here are three things many travelers recommend checking as soon as you enter your room.
1. Check the Mirror
One of the first things to examine is the room’s mirror.
Most hotel mirrors are standard one-way reflective mirrors, but if a mirror appears loose, damaged, unusually thick, or installed in an unexpected location, it may deserve closer attention.
Some travelers are familiar with the so-called “fingernail test” that circulates online. However, experts note that this method is not a reliable way to determine whether a mirror is two-way. If you genuinely suspect a privacy issue, the safest approach is to contact hotel management immediately or request another room.
Pay attention to signs such as:
- Loose or poorly installed mirrors.
