What Is This Strange Object Next to the Banana?

However, the object is actually much simpler than one might think. It is simply the connecting piece from a collapsible measuring cup set.

Many consumers purchase modern silicone collapsible measuring cups, especially the bright-colored ones that fold flat. They observe that these cups connect using a plastic or rubber ring, which makes them easier to store. This ring goes through the handles of the cups and holds them together. However, the ring pictured in the viral photograph is not just any clip; it is the pivot or axle that connects to the end of the ring. It passes through the handle of the final cup. This distinctive little “button” shape maintains the structural integrity of the entire measuring cup set. It allows the user to open and close the cups like a folding fan.

It is common for these clips to fall off due to the force applied to pull them free. This can happen intentionally or unintentionally by young children, who are always investigating objects that do not belong to them. Once the clip separates from the cups, the small object resembles nothing that would typically be recognized as a kitchen gadget. On its own, it looks very much like a miniature chew toy, a grommet, or a piece from a building set.
