There was a power outage last night. I went to my son's room to get some candles he kept under his bed, and suddenly I found this.

Then I remembered the candles that were under my son's bed.
I walked slowly down the hallway, guided only by memory and the blurred outlines of furniture I'd seen a thousand times. The house seemed different in the dark: larger, quieter, strange in a way that made even the slightest sound seem amplified. Each footstep echoed a little more than necessary, as if the walls were listening.
When I reached her room, I knelt carefully beside the bed. The air was still and slightly dusty, like that of a forgotten place where things accumulate over time: lost socks, broken toys, random objects that children insist are "important," even when they can no longer explain why.
I reached under the bed, hoping to find candles.
Instead, my fingers brushed against something cold.
Rigid plastic.
I removed it slowly.
At first, I couldn't take in what I was seeing.
It was a strange, blue, irregular, angular, and unsettlingly unfamiliar object. It resembled nothing I could immediately categorize. It wasn't a toy in the conventional sense. It wasn't a household item. It wasn't something that belonged in a child's bedroom, or anywhere in a normal house.
Its shape was irregular, almost aggressive in its design: uneven curves, pointed protrusions, and strange edges that caught the dim light from my phone in such a way that it seemed almost to have a life of its own. The blue color was deep and opaque, but somehow it intensified with the surrounding darkness, as if it absorbed attention rather than reflected it.
I slowly turned it over in my hands.
Nothing made sense.
No brand. No instructions. No apparent function. Simply an object that seemed like it should do something, but refused to explain what.
For a few seconds, my mind did what it always does in the absence of information: it began to invent possibilities.
A broken electronic device?
Any kind of experimental device?
