What to do if an insect appears in your home?
There’s no need to panic or call pest control right away. Here’s a simple approach to handle the situation calmly and efficiently:
Safely capture (and identify): If the insect is still there, cover it with a clear glass, slide a piece of sturdy paper underneath, and take it outside. If you want to be absolutely sure what kind of insect it is, take a picture of it. (You can describe the photo to me afterward or use an app like Google Lens.)
Reduce the humidity in the bathroom: Most bathroom insects (especially ladybugs) love moisture. Ventilate thoroughly after showering, don’t leave wet bath mats on the floor, and mop up any puddles.
Look for hiding places: Check under the sink, behind the washing machine, and in corners. If you find cracks or crevices in silicone sealant or tiles, seal them—insects like to hide there.
Secure your garbage disposal: Insects often crawl out of garbage disposals. Rinsing them with hot water and vinegar or baking soda helps, and leaving the plugs in your bathtub and sink overnight will also help.
Reassure your daughter (and yourself) that the vast majority of insects you encounter at home in the Czech Republic are harmless to humans. They are simply stray visitors.
