Convent of Santa Clara mystery

“No… no time,” Beatriz rasped, struggling to sit up on the cold steel table. “They know I took the ledger. They realized what I did right after the transport van left the convent. They will come here to ensure the autopsy is completed and the body destroyed.”

Before Esteban could process her warning, the heavy double doors at the entrance of the morgue corridor rattled violently. The sound of heavy footsteps echoed down the hallway, accompanied by the stern, authoritative voices of men demanding immediate access from the night security guard.

Esteban looked at Camilo, whose face had gone entirely pale. The head of the city coroner’s board, accompanied by two unknown men in dark suits, pushed through the swing doors.

“Doctor Fonseca,” the board director said sharply, stepping into the room with an unnerving calm. “There has been a clerical error regarding this deceased nun. The convent has revoked the request for an autopsy. We are here to take custody of the body immediately.”

Esteban stood tall in front of the gurney, subtly blocking their view of Beatriz, who had pulled her habit around herself and remained deathly still once more.

“I’m afraid that won’t be possible,” Esteban replied coldly, keeping his hands steady. “The victim arrived with evidence of foul play and systemic corruption. The authorities have already been automatically notified through our digital filing system.”

The director’s face hardened, realizing that the quiet doctor in the Puebla morgue had already uncovered the truth. The dark story that began with a mysterious warning on a body was about to expose a conspiracy that reached far beyond the sacred walls of Santa Clara, forever changing the lives of everyone involved. 🌲
